The Tally Newsletter: April 2025
Welcome to the latest edition of The Tally Newsletter. In this edition we’ll cover Tally’s $8M Series A, Hyperlane’s token launch on Tally, the launch of Multigov®, and The Token Value Accrual Best Practices Webinar.
Let’s dive in.
Tally raises $8m series a
On April 22nd we announced our $8M series a to scale the software layer for onchain organizations and help protocol tokens accrue value.
From Tally CEO and Co-founder, Dennison Bertram
”What began as a DAO governance tool has evolved into the most widely adopted software stack for onchain organizations.Tally powers infrastructure for leading organizations across Ethereum and Solana — including @arbitrum, @Uniswap DAO, @zksync, @wormhole, @eigenlayer, @Obol_Collective, and many more.
With over 1 million active users and $1 billion moved using our tools, winning teams use Tally to support every phase of their onchain journey:
• Launch: distribute tokens and onboard users
• Operate: manage treasuries and govern protocols
• Grow: accrue value and create token utility
Tally launched in 2020. We are grateful to have built through the ups and downs of the last 5 years, and we haven't been on this journey alone. We want to thank our users, partners, and investors including: @AppWorks, @1kxnetwork, @blockchaincap, @cyberFund_, @placeholdervc, @BitGo, @Lemniscap, @CastleIslandVC, and @bloccelerate.”
We’re excited to continue building the future of software onchain. Read the full announcement here.
Hyperlane launches $HYPE on Tally
Hyperlane is the modular interoperability protocol that brings permissionless cross-chain communication to governance. With Hyperlane’s unique "sovereign consensus" model, onchain organizations can define their own security parameters for interchain messaging, opening up novel designs for cross-chain coordination.
In addition to Tally providing a seamless claim experience for the $HYPE token launch, governance participation across the Hyperlane ecosystem is about to get really easy. With Tally, delegates and token holders can now view proposals, vote, and track governance activity on Hyperlane in one place. To dive deeper into how Hyperlane works under the hood, check out their launch post.
MultiGov®: the future is multichain
Governance is evolving and MultiGov® is leading the way. Now live on Solana, Ethereum, and every EVM L2, MultiGov® enables DAOs to aggregate voting power from multiple chains into a single executable decision. That means no more fragmented governance and no more messy vote syncing.
With Tally’s native support for MultiGov®, contributors can interact with proposals that span chains and communities without needing to toggle between interfaces. Check out the MultiGov® launch announcement for all the details on how the tech works beneath the hood and what’s coming next.
Webinar recap: token value accrual best practices
Featuring Scopelift, RARI Foundation, and The Obol Collective
Last week, we hosted a deep-dive panel on one of the most critical questions in crypto: how do protocols design real, sustainable value accrual?
Tally CEO and Co-founder Dennison Bertram was joined by Ben DiFrancesco (Scopelift), Jana Bertram (Rari Foundation), and Toma (Obol Collective) to explore staking design, treasury strategy, and incentive alignment for tokenized organizations using Tally’s modular protocol stack.
Why value accrual matters more than ever
“If the protocol is securing and generating a large amount of value for the treasury, then the token has to have value or the system is not secure… In the long run, you need value to the token or your marginal token buyer becomes someone who is just trying to extract value rather than contribute.” - Ben (Scopelift)
We’ve entered a new era where speculative premiums are fading, and protocols need mechanisms that return value to contributors, not just token holders.
The modular design of the Tally stack
“There’s a real modularity and composability in the Tally stack… Participants can opt into different baskets of services based on their risk profile, creating a hyper-efficient way to return value.” - Dennison (Tally)
From essential governance staking to advanced restaking and insurance fund integrations, Tally’s stack lets protocols grow at their own pace without locking protocols into rigid design structures.
Staking vs. buyback: what's more effective?
“Buybacks and burns don’t address the free rider problem,” Ben said. “Value accrual shouldn’t be blanket; it should reward those who provide services in aligned, positive-sum ways.”
Dennison added:
“At the logical extreme, an organization could buy back all its tokens and centralize entirely. That’s a dangerous outcome that undermines decentralization.”
Staking should be viewed as a more dynamic and flexible mechanism, especially when tied to participation like governance, delegation, or protocol service provisions.
Why RARI and Obol chose Staking with Tally
Obol
“It was a no-brainer for us… Governance vs. DeFi alignment, value accrual, and delegate incentives—Tally bundles these all into a single, coherent system.” - Toma (Obol Collective)
RARI
“Our token needed a governance upgrade, and staking became a clean incentive to migrate. It fits within our broader roadmap for long-term sustainability.” - Jana (RARI Foundation)
Both protocols are using Tally’s staking infrastructure to modernize token utility and lay the groundwork for future value-sharing mechanisms. Stay tuned for the official launch of Obol and RARI staking.
Governance staking isn’t one-size-fits-all
“Governance staking is a base-level utility. Slashing isn’t always necessary—loss of rewards is often enough. But if you’re securing infrastructure, slashing might be required. Protocols should offer multiple risk-reward profiles.” - Ben (Scopelift)
The takeaway? Staking design must match the purpose: governance, infrastructure security, insurance, or liquidity provision.
Rediscovering tokens
“We’re rediscovering what tokens are and what they mean. A token with no governance, no rights, and no value accrual? That’s just marketing. And when the hype wears off, those tokens won’t last.” - Dennison (Tally)
Build real systems, not just hype
The panelists closed the session with a dose of optimism:
“Underneath the noise, real progress is being made. The vision of permissionless, credibly neutral, community-governed infrastructure is still alive, and we’re building it.” - Ben (Scopelift)
